Greetings from the Sherwood Park

Greetings from the Wicked North!

Lot's of stuff is happening in our area and elsewhere and I'm exited about the future! So first off, Thank you all for fasting and praying for Mercedes over the past couple of weeks! Those prayers must be helping because she agreed to be baptized on the 23 of May!!!! We were planning on inviting her to be baptized on the 30th but the spirit directed otherwise haha! so now we have to figure out how to teach her 20 principals from lesson 4 and 5 within the next couple of weeks. Thank goodness her friends have been preparing her for the last year or so, and she already knows a lot! She is the golden investigator: We've taught her 3 great lessons and we will be meeting with her twice next week!

We are doing a great deal of finding lately. We walked about halfway across our area and back yesterday and we talked to just about everyone in our path. A couple people agreed to meet with us. Others wanted to bash. One guy told us to get off his porch. It was a good time. We found a lady from the Philippines who said she'd be willing to meet, so we referred her over to the Tagalog speaking missionaries. Edmonton is a very diverse place and so there are language missionaries who cover entire zones and work with the people from those areas who speak a different language. We have Spanish missionaries, Tagalog Missionaries and Mandarin Missionaries. We have been referring lots of folks lately.

In other news, We had Stake conference yesterday and Elder Renlund of the first quorum of the 70 and Elder Evanson of the 6th quorum of the 70 came to speak. They focused on the importance of ward council, and the importance of family Sabbath day observance. It was a really good experience and a recent convert from our ward was able to attend. His name is Philip and he just moved here, so we started teaching him the new member lessons last Friday.

I really liked a quote from Elder Renlund: He said that "The Church is an Atonement Delivery system." People make mistake in their live's and many are encircled by the chains of sin. The only way that anyone can be made clean is through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. As a missionary I am a gate-keeper of the Atonement and I should be actively extending the invitation to be baptized to as many people as possible. What a marvelous work this is.

I love you all tons! I hope this email finds you all in good health and in good spirits! God bless you every one!

Love,
Elder Higginson
